mistakes most businesses have made that you should completely avoid like the
plague.
- Spamming
Posting a large amount of content and updating every minute
is a good strategy, if you plan to annoy and lose all your followers that is!
Try to have a posting schedule and post relevant content to avoid this.
- Having no strategy.
If you have no destination in mind, any road will take
you there. This is not just a cute saying, but it applies in many aspects of
life including social media. Random posting of content on social media does not
get your business anywhere. Some of the strategies you may want to start with
include conceptualizing measurable goals, developing policies for social media
for your company, having a social media schedule and having a distinct social
media presence or “voice”.
- Talking too much about your brand alone.
While you are there to promote and market your
business it is also necessary not to forget the social aspect of social media. Let
your audience know that you are ready and willing to communicate with them and
they will participate in your activities and maybe even offer their ideas that
may improve your business further. You may also share other people’s content if
you feel it may be relevant to your audience.
- Not proof reading your work.
This should actually be among the top things you do
before making any post at all. People notice the lack of punctuation, awful
grammar and misspelled words. Once they do, normally they stop reading and move
on. These things that may seem petty actually affect your credibility.
- Using irrelevant hashtags.
Using hashtags really helps make your business more
visible. However, using irrelevant hashtags just because they are the ones that
people search for the most irritates social media users. This is because they
search for content they want and instead find yours which is irrelevant to
their search and this may give your business a bad public image. Stick to a
certain number of hashtags and make sure they are relevant to your content.
- Creating accounts on too many platforms at once.
Some businesses create social media accounts on more
than five platforms at once despite not having enough content to engage them
nor the man power and time to dedicate to them. This usually overwhelms the
business and sometimes they drop all accounts altogether. It is crucial to
start with what you can manage and after the success of that, you can move
on-wards and expand.

businesses have made that has led to failure in the marketing of their business
