HOW TO CHOOSE A SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM FOR YOUR BUSINESS
Social media is here and isn’t going away any time
soon. In fact, more social media platforms are coming up every other day and
may soon replace traditional methods of advertising and marketing like print
media which is already dying out slowly. Since social media can be quite a
confusing space with hundreds (soon to be thousands) of platforms to choose
from, we’ll take a look at how to choose the best platform for your business.
Two important tips to consider before anything else-:
- You should be in a platform that your audience/audiences are on.
This is especially important as it will enable you to
get the value that you want and give your audiences the value that they want
and need.
2. Highlight
your strengths.
Be in social media platforms that work for you. Just
because someone was successful in a certain platform doesn’t mean you should
use it as well. i.e. If you’re not comfortable in front of a camera, YouTube may not be the best way to go.
You may be better as a writer and go for WordPress
or Tumblr.
If you have considered this, you probably already have
your answer for which platform to use. If you’re a product marketer Instagram would be a really great
platform to use. Just try and get creative with what you post to market your
products.
LinkedIn
is great for social networking and doesn’t really take up a lot of your time,
five minutes a day is more than enough… and you don’t have to be there every
single day.
- YouTube is a really way to grow your business using video content to market your products. It may actually be the best platform for marketing your business. If you’re not sure how to get started, you could get coaching on how to make good videos or get a professional to do it for you so you can use this amazing platform.
- Blab.im is another good platform if you’re comfortable on camera and socially interactive. It’s a great social media platform for face to face networking and conferencing. It may even be better for networking than LinkedIn since you get to see the people you’re networking with, form relationships and close much more business deals. It is probably the most human social media platform there is.
If you’re not comfortable with making videos or being
in a video, Facebook, twitter, google
plus, LinkedIn and WordPress could be good platforms for you.
- Another way to look at which platform to choose is using strategic combination. You could combine five or three platforms to market your business, but be really active in your major ones, like twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
- It is also important to dedicate only the time you have per day to social media. You could have a timer and set thirty or forty minutes aside and be done with social media for the day after that. Some businesses have a social media department to take care of this as their main job, but if you don’t you could make use of micro-time.
- Micro-time is the little minutes when you’re doing things that don’t require your full attention i.e.-: when you’re lining up at the bank or for lunch, you can take out your phone and get on your twitter… or when you’re traveling or in an elevator and if you do this, social media won’t take much of your time.
